A BEAUTIFUL OASIS – THE FERGHANA VALLEY
Ferghana Valley – is one of the most beautiful oasis areas. The area of the valley is 22,000 km2, with a population of 7 million people. Ferghana Valley is located in a beautiful picturesque place, surrounded by mountains, like a fairy-tale country. The valley includes such famous cities as Andijan, Fergana, Margilan, Kokand, Shakhimardan and Kuva. And of course we can not fail to mention the magnificent monuments of architecture with which the Fergana Valley is so rich.
The city of Andijan is one of the beautiful cities of the Ferghana Valley, located in the northeast, surrounded by mountains and hills. The Andijan and Alamishik hills are rich in oil, gas, water and other natural resources. Andijan gained fame from the 9th century AD. To date, Andijan is a major industrial center of Uzbekistan. It is in this city that Uzbek-Korean JV “UzDaewooAuto” is located. Andijan is located on the site of an ancient caravan route linking China to Central Asia. In those days it was part of the Great Silk Road and served as the eastern gate of the Fergana Valley. Throughout the whole route along the banks of the Karadarya River there were caravanserais.
The next city in the Ferghana Valley is Kokand. In ancient times Kokand had another name – Khukand or Havokand. For the first time in such a mention, he appeared in the annals of the 10th century. Kokand played an important role in the life of the shopping center on the Great Silk Road and in the 13th century, but unfortunately, like most Central Asian cities, it was destroyed by the Mongols.
Margilan is a beautiful city in the Ferghana Valley, which was once widely known by craftsmen in fabrics and carpets, in particular the khan-atlas. Margilan is famous for its peculiar architectural traditions. Caravans with silk were sent from Margilan to Arabia, here more than 20 million meters of silk fabrics were produced.
Kuva is a memorial complex of the famous medieval scientist Al-Fergani, who was known in Europe under the name of Alfraganus.
55 km from Fergana in a picturesque high-mountainous area (1500 m above sea level) lies the resort town of Shakhimardan. It is a stunningly beautiful place, lost among the mountains of the Alai Range and washed from two sides by the rivers Oka-Su and Kok-Su.
